Stock up for Christmas with the medicines you really need – check now

Patients who rely on repeat prescriptions need to check now they have enough medicines to last over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays and order any they may run short of. But they are also being urged only to reorder what they will need.

Remember that Christmas Day falls on a Monday this year, so you should do this as early as possible in the week beginning Monday December 18.

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered by going into your GP practice, your pharmacy or going online by using GP Online Services, a simple website that can also be used to make and cancel appointments and view medical records.

Pharmacist Dr Manir Hussain, Associate Director, Medicines Optimisation for Stokeon-Trent and North Staffordshire CCGs said: “In order to stay well, patients should make sure they have enough medicine for over the Christmas period.

“While we urge people to be stocked up for Christmas, we also ask them to make sure you are stocked up with the right things. Only order the medicines you need. Over ordering just leads to waste if your treatment plan changes.”

“If you are not sure, then please ask your local pharmacist. They’re trained health professionals with expert knowledge of medicines and can offer advice. And if you don’t want a conversation at the counter, just let them know, as many have private consultation areas.”
